Matsu Biennial 2023

A complete renewal of the Matsu Biennial (馬祖國際藝術島) official website, migrating from WordPress to a modern headless CMS architecture.

About Matsu Biennial

The Matsu Biennial is an international art festival taking place across four townships and five islands of Matsu—Beigan, Dongyin, Nangan, and Chukuang. The exhibition features artworks by artists from Taiwan and abroad, created in collaboration with local communities.

What's New in 2023

  • Archive Edition Switcher - Users can now browse and switch between different year's editions, preserving the history of past biennials
  • CMS Migration - Switched from WordPress to Strapi for more flexible and customizable backend development
  • New Key Vision - Fresh visual identity and loading animation design (video demo)
  • UI Improvements - Refined design components for better user experience
  • Custom API Services - Tailored endpoints to meet client's specific needs

Interactive Island Map

A key feature allowing visitors to explore artworks by location:

  • Customized CMS Input - Content editors can easily manage artwork locations (video demo)
  • Location Grouping - Artworks at the same venue are grouped together; clicking a pin reveals all artworks at that location (video demo)

Technical Implementation

  • Built with Vue.js for reactive, component-based architecture
  • Strapi as headless CMS with customized content types and input fields
  • Well-structured data models for artwork and artist content
  • Deployed on AWS Elastic Beanstalk for scalable, managed hosting
